Platform for BOF converter coolant maintenance (Steelworks)
Project requirements
The client needs equipment to perform maintenance tasks inside the cooling ducts of the converter (BOF) at the Arcelor Mittal steel plant in Avilés (Asturias).
Design, manufacturing, assembly, customer training, and annual maintenance of a special platform that allows personnel to safely enter the two boiler converters to carry out work throughout the entire duct.
The duct is circular and approximately 60 meters high, with some sections being vertical and others inclined at about 60°.

Solution
Permanent hanging platform consisting of a suspension trolley with motorized horizontal translational movement on a runway beam. This large trolley, weighing approximately 5 tons, contains the hoists, fall arresters, cable and electric hose reels, and the control and operation system for a cradle that is inserted into the duct.
The cradle is equipped with a control cabinet to manage all movements from the cradle itself. A second control system allows for operation from the upper trolley.
Maintenance of the BOF duct is performed safely and efficiently using a suitable platform designed for a service life of many years.
