The client needs equipment to facilitate the "staves" replacement operation (cooling circuit components) inside a steel mill's blast furnace.

Design, supply, customer training, and assembly of equipment that allows for the positioning of personnel inside the blast furnace to access its entire internal perimeter.

Solution

Fixed-level, modular, detachable circular suspended platform. The platform is configured with components small enough to allow the entire disassembled unit to pass through the manhole. The design allows for quick reconfiguration into different diameters to adapt to the interior diameter of the blast furnace at each level. This provides support for operators during the extraction and replacement of the "staves." The entire system is suspended from 8 hydraulic wire rope traction hoists.

One of the greatest challenges and key features of this special hanging platform is that it can be assembled in mid-air at the top of the furnace.

The total downtime of the blast furnace was reduced by several days, thanks in part to the ease of assembly, disassembly, and operation of the special Accesus hanging platform.
