Chimney demolition platform (exterior)

Project requirements

The client needs to demolish a high-rise concrete chimney at a thermal power plant in Galicia.

Design, manufacturing, customer training, and assembly of equipment that allows personnel access to the entire exterior perimeter of the chimney so that operators can cut the chimney into pieces and a crane can lower them.

The greatest difficulty is that once each section of the chimney is cut, there is no longer any structure at the upper level for anchoring, as the rest of the chimney (the interior refractory lining, for example) has already been dismantled in previous operations.

Solution

Angular modular manual hanging platforms that surround the entire chimney on the outside.

The angular modules allow for angle adjustment (the chimney is tapered and increasing in size).

Along with the selection of the number of sections assembled, the complete platform adapts to the circumference of the chimney at each level. To solve the problem of the lack of a support wall once each section is dismantled, a system of removable davits is used, which are successively anchored and removed. The manual traction hoists that allow for the vertical movement of the platforms hang from these davits.

The manual hanging platform system supplied allows for the demolition of the chimney without the need for large auxiliary means or suspension davits.

Ultimately, the work was completed according to the plan, and the client was fully satisfied.
