Suspended platform on the Fernández Casado cable-stayed bridge

Project requirements

The client needs to access the stay cables of the Fernandez Casado cable-stayed bridge, which consists of two 120-meter-high pylons and 220 stay cables that support the bridge deck.

Development of a suspended platform capable of accessing the different stay cables of the two bridge pylons along their entire length. A top traction trolley and two suspended cradles—one on each side of the cable—will be used.

Solution

A cable anchored to the top of the pylon and stretched to the lower end of the bridge allows a traction trolley to climb along the stay cable. Two special suspended platforms, designed to adapt to this highly unique case, are hung from this trolley, enabling operators to inspect and repair defects in the stay cables of the cable-stayed bridge.
